Bilateral Milian's Ear Sign of Erysipelas
A 76-year-old man presented with fever, and pain in his right ear. Physical examination revealed tender edematous, erythema, and a few vesicles of the right ear, along with facial involvement (Picture 1, 2). Laboratory examination showed neutrophilic leukocytosis. The next day, his left ear and face showed a tender light-colored erythema (Picture 3). After treatment with intravenous ceftriaxone...
متن کاملSign-changing Blow-up Solutions for Yamabe Problem
Let (M, g) be a smooth compact Riemannian manifold of dimension n ≥ 3. We are concerned with the following elliptic problem ∆gu+ hu = |u| 4 n−2−εu, in M, where ∆g = −divg(∇) is the Laplace-Beltrami operator on M , h is a C1 function on M , ε is a small real parameter such that ε goes to 0.
متن کاملAbsence of the p55 Kd TNF-alpha receptor promotes survival in rabies virus acute encephalitis.
We investigated the role played by inflammation in acute encephalitis following infection with a neurotropic virus by comparing the disease caused by the CVS strain of rabies virus in C57BL/6 and mice deficient for the p55 Kd TNF-alpha receptor (p55TNFR-/-). Morbidity (weight loss and paralysis) and mortality of infected mice were associated with viral propagation, cytokine (IL-6, IL-10, TNF-al...
متن کاملIntradermal DNA vaccination in ear pinnae is an efficient route to protect cats against rabies virus.
A DNA vaccine against rabies (pGQH) was administrated to cats in order to examine different administration routes. Four groups of three cats each were inoculated with pGQH as follows: group A, intramuscularly (IM), 100 microg; group B, intranasally (IN), 100 microg; group C, intradermally into ear pinnae (ID-EP), 100 microg, and group D, IM, 200 microL of phosphate buffer solution (PBS) alone (...
متن کاملExistence and Blow up of Small-amplitude Nonlinear Waves with a Sign-changing Potential
We study the nonlinear wave equation with a sign-changing potential in any space dimension. If the potential is small and rapidly decaying, then the existence of smallamplitude solutions is driven by the nonlinear term. If the potential induces growth in the linearized problem, however, solutions that start out small may blow-up in finite time.
